Three Generations in the Making

Born and Raised on Kauai

Many years ago, when Kauai was still one of the world’s best kept secrets, a little boy was raised in a simple sugar era plantation house, right on the beach next to a small boat harbor in Poipu. He got to pick shells on the beach just steps away from his home alone every day, learn to sail with his father in the small boat they had docked at the harbor on the weekends, watch the sunsets each day as they dipped into the magnificent Pacific Ocean and gaze at the always bright night stars when they came out to play. Sound too good to be true? Well luckily for this little boy Louis in the story it was just another day in Poipu! Born and raised on Kauai, he was fortunate to have his parents give him the opportunity to have a storybook upbringing.

Deep Roots in the Poipu Community

His Mother and Father (Charlee & Louie) founded Garden Island Rentals, a division of Charlee and Associates Realtors, as one of the first vacation rental companies on Kauai in the small sugar plantation town of Koloa in 1981. Not long thereafter the company grew to become one of the largest and most successful Real Estate and property management companies on island. After two hurricane’s (Iwa in 1982 and Iniki in 1992) Louie and Charlee tirelessly worked to help their clients and overall community impacted by the hurricanes in rebuilding Poipu to what it is today; one of the most desirable vacation rental destination areas in the world. With his parent’s involvement in the community serving in leadership roles for the Kauai Department of Commerce, Kauai Board of Realtors, Hawaii Real Estate Commission, the Koloa Community Association, and American Youth Soccer Organization, Louis learned at a young age what it means to give back to the place that one calls home.

Garden Island Rentals Today

After leaving for many years to attend college and to join the “real world” on the “mainland” as his father would say, Louis decided to return home to follow in the footsteps of his parents in the Real Estate and vacation rental industry. Motivated by starting a family of his own to give his children the opportunity to be raised on Kauai like he once was and to share the joy of what it is like to truly experience Kauai for those who visit here, Louis is passionate about creating vacation rental memories for those who choose to visit that will last a lifetime.
